Invitation to Professional Geropsychology

This presentation will provide a broad overview of the field of Professional Geropsychology.  Topics include what professional geropsychology is, what geropsychologist do and where they work, basic facts about older adults, and the practical relevance of APA's Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Older Adults for those who provide services to this population.  The presentation will take a closer look at depression in older adults including prevalence, treatments, and common issues that are a focus of psychotherapy.  Guidance is offered on  professional resources and readings in geropsychology.

Speaker  Bio: Gregory A. Hinrichsen, Ph.D.

During almost forty years in the field of aging, Dr. Hinrichsen has provided clinical services, conducted research, directed psychology internship and fellowship programs, and published articles and books.  During his career he has worked at the Zucker Hillside Hospital of the North Shore- LIJ Healthcare System and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  In 2007-2008 he was an APA Congressional Fellow in the office of U. S. Senator Ron Wyden where he was responsible for legislative aging issues.  He is currently on the faculty of the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
